Heroes & Horses


As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, Heroes & Horses, Inc. depends on generous financial contributions from individuals, businesses and governmental agencies in order to deliver our impactful programs. Though we do have a fee-for-service structure, many people who would benefit from our programs do not have the financial means to cover the fee themselves. We never want to turn anyone away. Gifts from our generous donors subsidize the program cost.

Heroes & Horses is changing lives in our community

Every year, Heroes & Horses serves hundreds of veterans and first responders, as well as their family members. Since 2016, our programs have served more than 1,300 clients. But it’s not enough to bring them into the program—we need to be sure that when they graduate from the program they do so with increased confidence and coping skills and decreased anxiety and destructive behaviors.

So, to continuously measure program impact, our facilitators gather anonymous, confidential data from each participant through self-assessments. Statistics on the reduction of anxiety and depression are recorded for future enhancement of programs and service elements.

As of January 2020, we have gathered data from 911 clients whose pre- and post-session self-assessments have yielded data that demonstrates a considerable reduction in anxiety and depression. Self-assessments, on average, have revealed:

  • 37.6% reduction in anxiety levels
  • 37.32% reduction in depression levels

Fiscal transparency

Our team of facilitators, volunteers and board members is committed to careful stewardship of financial investments from our supporters, community and business sponsors. How can you help?

Your investment in Heroes & Horses’ programs goes directly to the equine experience for participants. Costs associated with these programs include: program facilitators, insurance, ranch rental, care and feeding of the equine partners, ranch upkeep, veterinary care and other expenses necessary to keep the program viable.
